Overview
Khajuraho
The Khajuraho is a group of Hindu and Jain temples & Monuments in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, India. They are about 175 kilometers southeast of Jhansi, 10km from Azad Nagar Khajwa, 9km from Rajnagar and 49 km from district headquarter Chhatarpur.
Different reasons are given for the construction of Khajuraho temples. There is an opinion that these idols here are part of the principle of Artha, Dharma, Kama, Moksha. It is also said in this regard that these idols are the means of testing the restraint of the devotees. Kama is one of the many paths to salvation.
The Chandela kings ruled central India from the 10th to the 12th century. The temples of Khajuraho were built between 950 AD to 1050 AD by these Chandela kings. After the construction of the temples, the Chandelo shifted their capital to Mahoba. But even after this, the importance of Khajuraho remained.
The depths of ancient Indian architecture can be gauged by looking at these temples of Khajuraho. In that era, which did not have engineering equipment, even then such strong temples were built, today even after 1000 years, they are still standing. Carvings on the walls of temples are made just by looking at them, blessed be our country India and its ancient people.
